Why would a mom raccoon take 2 babies with her but leave 1?

A lot of times, sad as it will seem, when a wild animal only take part of her liter with her it's because the one left behind is sick. Whether the mother returns or not, it's best that you not remove that baby yourself. With wild animals it's always best to let the wildlife people who are trained to do those thing take care of the problem.
